Obituary of Eileen Elizabeth Kennedy
Kennedy: Eileen
Eileen Elizabeth Kennedy moved on into the loving arms of God in her 100th year peacefully slipping away at midnight at Douglas Memorial May 10th 2023.
Much loved and cherished mum to Susan Dobbin and Peter (Brigid) Kennedy.
Loving grandmother to Abigail (Mike ) Ryan and sweet great grandmother to Hayden and Hudson Ryan.
Predeceased by her beloved husband John (Jack) Kennedy (2012), dear parents in England, parents in law ( Shelburne, Ont.), sister and brother in law (Oakville, Ont), brother in law, England and son in law Dr Stafford Dobbin (2020)
She leaves behind her sister in England, loved nieces and nephews, much loved cousin Agnes Weaver in New Brunswick and her family and friends that completed her life.
Special mention of her neighbour and friend Kathy Heximer who was her dear friend and companion before Covid, through and after.
She was available to her at every turn and the family are grateful for her constant attentiveness, kindness and generous heart.
They played cribbage together almost up to the last week of Eileen’s life.
Eileen was 2 ½ pound when born in 1923 and was told she could fit in a milk bottle.
As a teenager she had severe peritonitis and was expected to not live, with no antibiotics; but went on from there to be mostly free of any severe illnesses the rest of her days.
She served in the Army Kinema Corporation in England during the War which provided and exhibited all films required by the Army at home and abroad for training education and recreational purposes.
Eileen met her husband who served in the Lake Superior Tank Regiment and fell in love, married in London, England and came to Canada as a war bride, leaving her parents and the home she knew behind; quite an adjustment but she made Canada her home and was proud to be a Canadian.
Eileen and John enjoyed life at the trailer, travelling together, family pets, flowers and gardening, birds and the simple beauty of nature, visiting family and friends, later euchre with the seniors.
Eileen was blessed with huge amounts of gifted talent in all she touched, art work and beautiful hand crafted items which she shared
with those she knew.
She lived a full and rich life and lovely to be in her company as she was genuinely interested in whomever she was speaking with and their life.
After children were raised she worked as a nursery school teacher for a time, and was a proud member of the UCW of the United Church (Queen St, Central Ave and last years at St John’s United in Stevensville)
Cremation services have been entrusted to Benner Funeral Services, Fort Erie. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00AM at St. John’s United Church, Stevensville. Refrehsments will be provided following the service.
Interment of ashes will be with Jack’s ashes at his birthplace, Shelburne, Ont also at a later date.
The family are grateful to Dr Csanadi for his years of service
And to Dr Scher, J’Nan Leach and the other hardworking, compassionate nurses at Douglas Memorial for your gracious and kind hearts to Eileen and family in time of need.
Donations to the Canada War Amps or the OPP Youth Foundation would be appreciated
