Obituary of Edward Ackerson – CHANGES TO SERVICES
Enveloped in love, light and song, J. Edward Ackerson (“Eddie” / “Sonny”) of Mazerolle Settlement, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 6, 2023, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB, December 12, 1937, he was the eldest of eight children.
He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Left to celebrate his life and the time they shared together is his beloved wife of over 60 years, Mary Anne (Wallace); his eight children, John (Gwen) of Douglas; Carmen (Jonathan) of Winthrop, ME; Pat (Terri) of Swan Creek; Sharon Trainor (Fred) of Oromocto; Mary-Clare White (Andrew) of Fredericton; Angela Henry (Blair) of Mazerolle Settlement; Mike (Lisabelle) of Shediac; and Grace (Jaden) of Oromocto; his 11 treasured grandchildren Tyler (Emily), Alexzandria (Nick), Max (Rori) and Adrian Ackerson; Angelina, Brandan, Katheryn and Stephen (Madi) Trainor; Josh White (Sophie); Sarah Russell (Dawson); and Owen Henry; five great-grandchildren, Lilian, Evella, Montgomery, Bella, and Bentley; siblings, Clifford (Pearl); Terry; Karen Jones; Elaine Perry (John); and Robert; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Despite failing health for a number of years, Eddie’s spirit remained intact. A big kid at heart, he was always ready with a joke to tell – and equally enjoyed the laughter or groans they elicited. He never wavered in this approach right up until end, as his means to connect with those he encountered and comfort those he loved.
With Eddie around, there was no need for Google. Although a humble man, he was a walking encyclopedia, known for his quick wit and command of the English language. Being naturally inquisitive, he spent many hours learning and researching anything of interest that crossed his path. Eddie loved music and could often be found conducting an orchestra from his armchair. His family will remember his love of nature that resulted in weekend barbecues at the Experimental Farm, treks in the UNB woodlot, trips to the ocean, and camping.
Eddie was deeply devoted to his faith and shared his love of God and the gospel with those he encountered. He will be welcomed into eternity by his parents, Della Martin and James Edward Ackerson; his brother, Fred Ackerson; sister, Donna Orr; and niece, Robin Webb.
His family is ever grateful for the compassionate care and support provided by the staff of 3SW in their time of need.
A visitation at McAdam’s Funeral Home and a funeral mass at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church, will be held at a later date .
Donations in memory of Eddie can be made to the Fredericton Food Bank, the Fredericton Community Kitchen or the donor’s choice.
