Peacefully, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Tillsonburg on Saturday, June 17, 2023, Edith Merle (Leach) Burgess, formerly of Springfield and Brownsville, passed away in her 102nd year. Beloved wife and best friend of the Late John “Russell” Burgess (2015) for 70 years. Proud and loving mother of Betty Jean Roelans of Chatham, , Nancy Pitter (Late Wayne)of Vienna, Wayne Burgess (Diane) of R.R. # 1 Brownsville, Murray Burgess of Vienna and mother-in-law of George Babcock of Aylmer. Cherished grandmother of Jason (Gloria), Joe (Tiffany), Josh (Erin), Don (Susan), Lori, John, Cathy (Late Brett), Leslee (Al), Darryl, Charlene (Chad) and many great-grandchildren. Edith is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Shirley Leach of Tillsonburg. Predeceased by her parents Archie and Margaret (Scott) Leach, her daughter Margaret Ann Babcock, brothers Harold Leach (Ila), Donald Leach (Pat), Harry Leach and sisters Margaret Kipp and Laura Corbett. Edith was a Registered Nurse at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital for many years.
Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Thursday June 22, 2023 from 12 noon – 1:00 pm. The Funeral Service for Edith will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Donald Calder officiating. Interment will take place at the Springfield Cemetery. Memorial donations to North Broadway Baptist Church, Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the Burgess family.
