Our dear Mom, Edith Mary Parker, of Grand Bay – Westfield, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023 at the age of 79 with her family by her bedside. She was born in Saint John, NB on May 23, 1944 to the late Duncan and Wenonah MacDonald. She spent her first eight years in Fowlers Corner until the time of expropriation for the Army Base. The family then moved to Hampton for a few years, then on to Westfield where Edith resided for the rest of her life. Edith is survived by her five daughters: Christina (David) Parker-Snyder, Sheila (Neil Hoag) Parker, Donna (Derrick Berry) Parker, Kimberly (Paul) Durling and Michelle (Darren Sears) Parker; four adored grandchildren: Crystal, Matthew, Amy and Tyler; step-grandchildren: Tiffany, Mallory, Russell, Farah and Leon; several great-grandchildren; sisters: Helen (Donald) Parker and Sadie DeLong. Edith was predeceased by her parents Duncan and Wenonah MacDonald; her brothers: Hugh MacDonald, Duncan MacDonald and Ronald Shields; and her granddaughter Kimberly Kemp. Edith’s husband Bob Parker passed away in 2020 after eight months together at the Church of St. John St. Stephen Nursing Home. Special thanks to the caring staff at St. John St. Stephen for taking such good care of Mom in her final four years. Edith was a longtime parishioner of St. Augustine’s Parish, a member of St. Augustine’s Women’s Society, a member of the Legion of Mary and a Catechist. She was always willing to give and help in any way she could. She was a volunteer canvasser for the Cancer Society, Heart Fund and the Red Cross. She attended Vocational School. Edith exhibited kindness to everyone she saw, was never quick to anger and did not judge others. Mom had a love for animals all her life, from her beloved horse Rowdy and cat Fluffy in her childhood, to her beloved dog Annie in her later years. There were always dogs and cats in our home growing up. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424) from where visitation will take place on Wednesday August 2 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday August 3 at 1:00 pm with interment to follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Grand Bay – Westfield. Donations to the ALS Society of Canada or the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
