Edith Mary Gavin passed away peacefully at age 91 at the Brockville General Hospital on February 18, 2023.
Survived by siblings Basil Gavin and Veronica Holly and brother-in-law Basil Holly.
Predeceased by her parents Charles & Leona Gavin, Lansdowne Ontario and siblings Leon Gavin (Irene), Father Joseph Gavin S.J., Nora Holly (nee Gavin), Irene Fraser (nee Gavin) (Bob), and Greg Holly (brother-in-law).
Edith was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. She will be fondly remembered by her cousins, friends and neighbours for her kindness and her welcoming nature.
Edith’s teaching career spanned from Ontario to Alberta to Northern Ontario and back to the Brockville area where she eventually retired. She also travelled extensively with family and friends to many regions of the world.
Edith was an active volunteer with the Catholic Women’s League, Retired Teachers Association, Meals on Wheels, Birthright Association and Charleston Lake Association. Edith was a passionate reader, board & card player, lover of animals (especially her cats and dogs) and treasured hosting countless family gatherings at her cottage.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the tremendous care provided by the Healthcare professionals at the Rehabilitation and Palliative Care Units at Brockville General Hospital and to the staff at Fox Run By the River Retirement Centre, Gananoque, Ontario.
A funeral mass and graveside service will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 985 Kidd Rd North, Lansdowne (just north of the village of Lansdowne), with a reception following at The Glen House, 409 Thousand Islands Parkway.
