It is with great sadness and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Dovena, who died peacefully, with grace and dignity on the morning of January 1, 2023. Dovena was the wife of the late Myer, with whom she had a long, loving marriage until his death in 2019. Daughter of the late Sarah and the late Lazar Glickman. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Corinne Hart, Clifford and Donna Hart. Loving Bubbie of Eli and fiance Pam, Mira, and Simon Zeldin; Riley and Logan Hart, all of Toronto. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Elinor and the late Louis Solomon, Barbara and the late Morty Glickman, and the late Sonny Glickman. Special aunt to her nieces and nephews, and their families.
A woman with a varied and interesting life, Dovena was first an actress (until her mother made her cancel a job in NYC), then a teacher who was loved by all, and ultimately, a wife, mother and aunt who was deeply focused on her family. She gave up teaching to help Myer by working at Hart’s Children’s Wear, cared for her own mother as she aged, and supported her children and grandchildren whenever and with whatever they required. She knew what was needed and simply did it. Dovena was always ready to listen, gave sage advice when asked, and never pushed her own views or agenda on anyone. She simply talked – and in the end we all listened and followed her advice.
Over the last months, she became increasingly frail, until she simply wore out quietly and without fuss. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Michael Tamilia for his exceptional support. Special thanks to the staff at the Waldorf, in particular Shari Greenberg, as well as Dovena’s caregivers, Marisa and Terry, for their care and devotion. We could not have navigated the last days without Shari and Terry. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Wednesday, January 4 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Beth Zion Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva at 7400 ch. de la Cte-Saint-Luc, C.S.L., Wednesday following burial until 3:30 p.m., continuing in Toronto. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dovena’s memory may be made to the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, 514-340-8251.
