It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Larry “Douglas” Atkinson, a long-time resident of McLennan, AB, who passed away on April 27, 2023, in Fairview, AB, at the young age of 32. Doug was born on January 22, 1991, in Spirit River, AB, and worked as an oilfield derrick hand.
A devoted husband, father, son, and brother, Doug is survived by his loving wife, Saidee Jones; their children, Hayden and Breylen; his parents, Irma and Larry Atkinson; and his sister, Kasity Bilous (Theo Bilous). He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Gordon and Ann Donaldson, as well as his paternal grandparents, George and Nola Nielson.
Known for his incredible strength, Doug was always eager to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and anyone in need. He possessed a genuine willingness to assist with laborious tasks, making a lasting impact on those around him. Doug was known to be the hardest worker and the powerhouse of any gang on the job site, giving his all and earning the respect of his colleagues.
In his free time, Doug enjoyed tinkering with vehicles, working on projects outside, and building things. He cherished moments spent watching movies and taking naps after a long day’s work. Doug also loved spending quality time with his sons, often bonding over their shared love of gaming.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to a charity of your choice.
