It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Dorothy Ann MacDonald on June 16th, 2023. She was born in Sydney, NS on January 30th, 1939 and was the luckiest baby in the world to be adopted and brought to Judique.
She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence, her parents Allan and Mary MacDonald, her brother, Jerry MacEachern; and her sister, Louise Donovan. She is survived by sons, David and Allan (Danielle); daughter, Mary; and grandchildren Kendra and Rowan. Mom spent her last 2 months under the care of the incredible staff at Inverness Hospital. The care, diligence and compassion shown by Dr Susie Egar, the Palliative team and all the caregivers was truly amazing and gave us great comfort.
Mom was a truly kind and compassionate lady. She truly loved her friends and family and they loved her back. She loved reading, traveling, shopping, eating and her chats over a cup of tea. She was always so excited to be included in family events. She was incredibly thrilled when her fur grandchildren, Theo and Tigger, would snuggle with her in bed. She prayed her rosary daily and was very generous to those in need. She loved her work at the Port Hood Credit Union and being able to help someone every day. Mom’s kindness is truly apparent from all the love and support we have seen over the years. The support given to us over the last 2 months was overwhelming. Anyone who knew Mom also knew she was always worried about someone or something. For the first time in our lives, she actually grew nails. She was very proud to show them off to all her visitors. We tried to take her home so many times and promised her first manicure ever. She has left a huge hole in so many lives and will always be missed. Rest peacefully our beautiful Mom.
Cremation has taken place. Mom will be waked at the Judique Fire Hall on Friday, June 23rd from 2-6pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 11am from St. Andrew’s Parish, Judique; Rev. Allan MacMillan officiating. Family flowers only please. Donations in Mom’s memory can be made to the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
