Doris’ Obituary
My parents were the late Pierre and Regina (Boudreau) Gaudet. I was the youngest of 8 kids. Losing my Dad at the young age of 8, my mom did the best she could!
We moved to Halifax a few years later and I attended Oxford Street School and Saint Patrick’s High. After school I worked at the Halifax Infirmary as stores keeper, at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Royal Bank of Canada, Lady Hammond Road.
I returned to Baie Sainte-Marie in 1973 where I worked for the Royal Bank of Canada, Church Point, Clare Hydro and finally retiring from Nova Scotia Power to help my husband in our family business, Dugas Auto Recyclers and Rebuilders Ltd.
I volunteered numerous hours with La Colonie Jeunesse Acadienne as President of Les Dames Patronesses the Church Point group, on the Board of Directors of La Caisse Populaire, Church Point, communion minister for over 20 years at Église Sainte-Marie, Church Point. The most exciting volunteering was as a Care Clown, Annabelle, visiting patients turning sad faces into smiles. I was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Little Brook Fire Department becoming President in 2009.
As I go, I leave behind my husband, Hébert. We have been married 60 years! Every morning as we finish our cribbage game we say “Good Game”. For our 60 years, I say Good Game!
I also leave behind my daughter, Luanna Marie Dugas (Daniel Courcelles) and my son, Darren Dugas (Janece McNutt). You have done well, Good Game.
My beautiful granddaughters, Réanne Isabelle Cooper (Marc-Alexandre Lagacy), Josée Marie Cooper, Mélanie Courcelles, Sophie Lysanne Courcelles, your game has just begun; continue to play it right and remember life is not always fair. Cancer sucks. Grand-mère vous aimes.
I leave behind as well my sister, Cecile Comeau.
I was predeceased by my siblings, Bernice, Herman, Delbert, Gilbert, Rosalie, Clifford and Hazel.
Donations can be made to Pancreatic Cancer Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society in my memory.
My family would like for you to join them at the Little Brook Fire Hall in Little Brook, Digby County NS on Monday, August 14th, 2023 from 2pm till 4pm to share stories.
I close my eyes, it’s my time to rest. Be the reason someone smiles today and as Annabelle would say “See you down the road!”
