Obituary
Doris Mae Einarson
November. 13, 1944- August. 21, 2023
Peacefully, on August 21, 2023, with family by her side her last few weeks, our beloved Doris left us. She will forever be loved by her daughter Sherri (Tony) and Son Jeff (Kim); and her grandchildren who will miss her immensely, Wade, Alida (Ian) and Aidan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years Oli; precious granddaughter Thora; parents, Kate and Mundi Gudmundson, and her in-laws, Olafur and Disa, along with her siblings who will be greeting her with the warmest hugs, and music playing upon their reunion.
Doris was the kindest woman with the gentlest heart. Doris was born in the Gimli Hospital and was the second last daughter to her parents. She was surrounded by 8 siblings; they had many fond memories growing up and she still beamed with joy talking about their big meals and mischievous times. She still stayed in touch with all her siblings over the years and made sure that she was up to date on their lives. You would never catch Doris without her hair curled, earrings in and dressed to the nines, she was such a beautiful woman inside and out. Doris became a mom for the first time in 1964 and then completed her family in 1965. She stayed home with the kids and was a home maker for all of them and was hands down the best cook and gardener! Amma worked at coop, and with family ran the Arnes Cottage Inn where he would share memories for days. After years of hard work, she retired and she found joy in crafting many things, her most famous being her Christmas wreaths that we are sure will hang on people’s doors forever. Her best role came in 1992 when she became an Amma. Amma made every single occasion special, especially easter where she made a hunt around the farm and that was one of the things we looked forward to the most, she was always thinking of activities to keep us busy, you never left her house bored or hungry. She was the best Amma and loved us unconditionally.
After losing the love of her life Doris had to sell her farm and learn to be independent for the first time since meeting Oli. She moved into an apartment in Gimli where she thrived in her new little space. She still cooked meals and hosted, made crafts, shopped for new clothes and jewelry, and enjoyed her time there. In 2016 she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatment which took a toll on her health. She cherished her time in Gimli and was sad to say goodbye to her place there, but quickly learnt that the move to the Arborg assisted living centre would be perfect. She was reunited with siblings, able to be independent with support, and always had the best care by the staff. She loved it there for many years.
Amma lived a very full life and knew it was time to go so she could become our guardian angel. We will always find ways to remember her whether it’s in music, cooking, canning, gardening, crafting, shopping, and being with family she will always be with us, and we are better for that. We are so incredibly thankful to have had a Mom and Amma like Doris and are grateful for the years of memories we were able to create for her. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at HSC MICU and Selkirk Hospital for all that they did in her last weeks, and the countless staff throughout the years that took care of her. We would also like to thank the staff at Arborg assisted living for making sure she was always loved and comfortable. As for Doris’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Interment will take place later with her family. Goda Nott Amma, we love you.
