It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful, funny, caring and courageous Mom. Mom moved on peacefully, surrounded by her family at St Lawrence Lodge on January 1, 2023. Mom fought hard the last couple years, but finally decided it was time to pack her bags and start another journey to see her late husband Ellard and son Bruce. She will be gratefully missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vicki & Junior, April, Jewel, LJ, Rosalia, Liam, Darci & Scott (deceased), Callie, Maddie, Landon, Rick & MaryAnn, Bob &Nicki, Blake, Tyler, Hunter, Grainger, Bailey, Rylee, Jim & Judy, Jade & Robbie, Aiden, Brynnleigh, Josh &Taylor, Oakliegh, Easton, Bruce(deceased), Krista & Justin, Alexa, Lucas, Scott & Irene, Brianna, Alexis as well as many friends and extended family.
Mom started her journey on May 16, 1937. Being the 5th and youngest child of Harry & Eva Sands (deceased). Also, the youngest sister to Merdy, Merla, Ronnie and Gary (all deceased). Mom grew up in the Athens area and met our dad Ellard MacMillan. They were married in February 1956 and started their family. Having two children Vicki & Rick before moving to Ottawa and having two more children, Jim & Bruce, moving back and settling to the family farm in 1967 on MacMillan Road, North of Addison, and having another child Scott. The family continued to grow adding grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad moved on in 2005, with mom staying on the farm by herself for many years, with Vicki & Junior living beside her to provide support and care, until health issues made it difficult to maintain the farm. Mom moved to Brockville and lived independently for sometime before further issues made it necessary to move to St Lawrence Lodge, where she stayed until her passing.
We will talk and reminisce about her great sense of humour, and her thoughts on so many potatoes in her diet, how strong and tough you were to the very end. You never complained and always had something funny to say even though you were suffering and in pain. You amazed us all with your outlook on life.
By the lucky 5 who got to call you mom, you will be gratefully missed, lovingly remembered and always cherished. Until it is our time to pack our bags and join you, take care Mom. We love you, see you down the road.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Centennial Road Church will be gratefully acknowledged.
