BERNREUTHER, Donna Marie
1953 – 2023
Sadly, Donna Marie Bernreuther passed away at home on Friday, August 11, 2023, at the age of 69
leaving her loved ones much too early. Donna was born on November 9, 1953, to parents Nora Bourke
and Edwin Read in Athabasca, AB, where she lived with her sister Beverley. Her mother re-married to
Norbert Bourke and moved to Golden, BC, where she was joined by six siblings, Karen, Lynne, Ferne,
Glenn, Cindy, and Carol.
Donna moved to Calgary, AB, where she raised two sons Paul and David. She attended Mount Royal
College and University of Calgary and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work. Furthering her
career as a social worker for the Government of Canada, Alberta Provincial Government and various
agencies and ministry. Donna also spent countless hours volunteering for various charities. Donna
moved to Red Deer and finished her career at the Michener Centre until she retired in 2023.
Donna was predeceased by her son David Rouzault, her mother Nora Bourke, father Edwin Read, sister
Karen Dingwall and stepfather Norbert Bourke.
She leaves to mourn her son Paul Bourke, his partner Lori, grandson Edward and his wife Robyn, great
grandson Ben and great granddaughter Aubree, grandson Lee and his partner Tisha, great grandson
Zander, and roommate Roman; siblings, Beverley Read (Len Degenhardt), Lynne (Rick) Barisoff, Ferne
(Vince) Strain, Glenn (Louise) Bourke, Cindy Davis (Stephane Gelinas), Carolyn (Raymond) Gelette, and
many nieces and nephews, family friends and coworkers.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to make a donation to the Epilepsy Association of
Calgary, #120 – 6835 Railway St. SE, Calgary, AB, T2H 2V6. A celebration of Donna’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the Robert McClure United Church in Calgary, AB.
