It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Denton Lyons on July 10, 2023 at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, ON.
Born and raised in Hamilton, ON, Denton was the son of the late Jack and Irene Lyons.
He later moved to Burlington but his heart was always in West Hamilton.
Loving husband and soulmate to Mary for 38 years. Denton was the proud dad of Steven Lyons and John Lyons (Rita). He was a loving step-dad to Marc Gatto (Theresa) and Michelle Hill (Cam). Cherished Papa, also lovingly referred to as Papa Dent, to Aaron Lyons, Evan Lyons, Sarah Lyons, Clayton Lyons, Colin Lyons, Taylor Hill (John Banks), Lauren Hill and Ethan Gatto. Denton smiled and his eyes always lit up when he saw his great-grandchildren Amelia Banks and Cohen Banks.
Denton will be missed by his sister Jacqueline Hannaford and his brother Richard Lyons (Cyndi). He will also be missed by brothers-in-law Pat Mercuri (Jane Peer) and Frank Mercuri (Ruth Lowndes) as well as sisters-in-law Ella Lyons, Linda Cartwright (Brent), Diana Lawrie (Dan) and Joanne Mercuri. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, Denton was predeceased by his brothers Gary, David and Jim.
Denton will be remembered for his gentle nature, his beautiful smile and his ability to repair or build almost anything. He loved music, dancing, gardening and travelling.
Denton was helped and supported by many amazing people over the last few years. Special thanks to Elly, Ewa, Nneka, Sandy, Sharon, Lori, Fiona and Cassidy. Also special thanks to the staff at Acclaim Health Adult Day Program, Joseph Brant Wellness House, Jim’s Suites at Patty’s Place, VON Respite Centre and the VON In Home Respite Program. Denton enjoyed all these programs and the activities that added joy and meaning to his life.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., where the Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions to Acclaim Health, Joseph Brant Wellness House and VON Hamilton would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
