In Celebration of
Debbie Carroll
September 3, 1954 –
January 18, 2023
Our beloved Deborah “Debbie” Irene Stella Carroll passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 18th, 2023. A cherished daughter, wife, mother, and Nona, she was 68 years old.
Debbie lived a life of extraordinary achievement, inspiring everyone she met with her kindness, brilliance, humility, and faith. She lived life deeply and was blessed with that rare Canadian grace, to be as content in the wilds of Northern Ontario as she was in the corporate boardrooms of Toronto. A private person of profound courage and will, Debbie cherished time with her husband David, her daughters Maria and Erin, and her beloved grandsons Jack and Liam.
Born in Sudbury Ontario in 1954, Debbie was raised “up the hill” in the little-Italy neighbourhood of Copper Cliff. Encouraged by her charismatic and passionate mother Gloria, hardworking bricklayer father Derno, and dear sister Beverley, Debbie’s early aptitude in mathematics led her to the University of Waterloo and into a career in banking, mining, and computer technology. Debbie retired as CEO of White Clarke North America after leading their businesses in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Australia.
Debbie was an ardent adventurer. Whether playing hockey on a frozen Lake Louise in Alberta, canoe-tripping in Killarney Park, or hiking Gros Morne in Newfoundland, she embraced the wonders of Canada. Beyond our borders, she spent a lifetime experiencing what the world had to offer, from visits to her ancestral family home in Fano, Italy, to experiencing the Middle East, Southeast Asia, or just spoiling her grandsons with Disney Cruises, she felt joy in seeking new horizons while always sure to keep touch with her northern roots.
An active member of her church and community, and a leader on charitable boards in her retirement, Debbie always made time for those who needed it. Her generosity of spirit, warmth, and compassion will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Debbie is survived by her best friend, co-adventurer, and the love of her life David Carroll, her daughter Maria, (David) and their sons Jack (12) and Liam (9), her daughter Erin, (Jesse) and grand-dog Owen. Debbie will be dearly missed by her mother Gloria and stepfather Robert. She joins her father and sister Bev in eternity.
Visitation is at the Turner & Porter Funeral home at 1981 Dundas St. W. Mississauga on Tuesday, January 24th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, January 25th at 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 3041 Mississauga Road, Mississauga.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
