It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our family pillar, Dave Graham, in his 76th year, on Monday February 13th, 2023, at Hospice Peterborough. Surrounded by his loved ones, he took his beautiful, peaceful, final breath and headed on to his eternal Home.
David Oscar Graham was the youngest of five children born to the late William Lawrence & Marguerite (Sanderson) Graham of Lindsay, Ontario. He was little brother to his four siblings, Bill Graham (Francis), Donna Madill (Bob, deceased), Bob Graham (Darlene) & Jean Green (Cecil March, deceased). He was endlessly loved by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Dave was the loving husband of Liz, unfailing father of Matthew, Leslie (Joe), and Al Hunter (Emily). Dave was the fun-loving Grandpa of Keaton, Delaney, Hayden, Madison, Hailey, Maddix, Rylan & Oliver.
After growing up in Lindsay, working on cars, spending time with his friends (sometimes getting up to no good) and being employed by various garages and industries, Dave dedicated his life to his faith. At 34, he enrolled at Ontario Bible College where he completed his Bachelor of Religious Education. He ministered at numerous churches: Baddow Baptist, Cambridge St. Baptist, Park St. Baptist, to name only a few. Dave loved working with young people throughout his ministry, as they in turn loved and trusted him. After meeting his love, Liz, in 1998, Dave joined the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church family in Peterborough, Ontario, where he remained a faithful member through to his passing.
Dave had a determination to overcome every challenge, to make a difference and be of service to others. He was instrumental in raising funds for a mission trip to Haiti in 2014, which he said, forever changed him. After his cancer diagnosis, he turned his journey to one of positive impact and raised $11,111.00 for Cancer Care at PRHC, by walking 7000 steps every day from August to December 2021, all while receiving his bi-weekly treatments.
Dave had a perpetual optimism for life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He travelled to many locations and loved going on cruises with his closest friends and his beloved wife. Dave was a regular at the Lindsay auction barns, looking for treasures, special things for his loved ones and “new” additions to his ever-growing toy car and truck collection. He loved to go camping, from Calgary to Burbalac, and moving on to many destinations in his Dodge pickup truck and 5th wheel trailer. From the west to the east, Dave loved to drive and was known to take spontaneous trips to wherever he set his sights.
Our husband, Dad and Grandpa was truly one of the best. His kindness exceeded all expectations and his dedication to the ones he loved, unprecedented. Those who had the opportunity to know him were the recipients of the greatest example of kindness and love. Although he has left broken hearts and endless tears, he has won his race. He is Home, with his Lord and Saviour.
The family would like to extend a very special Thank You to Dr. Mallory & the Palliative care team at PRHC who provided incredible care to Dave. To the team at Hospice who made Dave’s last days beautiful, loving, and filled with support like no other, we Thank You for being the angels that walk with us.
Visitation to take place, February 25th, 1:00 – 3:00 pm at The Mount Community Centre, 1545 Monaghan Rd., Peterborough Ontario. Dave’s Celebration of Life will be held at The Mount Community Centre Sunday, February 26th, 2:30 p.m. followed by a reception. The service will be live-streamed at www.ashburnhamfuneral.ca and found on David’s memorial page under the photos & videos tab. A recording will be made available after the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice Peterborough or St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church.
