Passed away peacefully at his home in Victoria, BC, February 9, 2023. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta on June 3, 1947.
Gordon was a quiet man who accomplished much but spoke about it very little. As a young man, he excelled at sports, especially track and field. After graduating from SAIT in 1968, he went on to build a successful Calgary construction company, Mermac Construction Ltd. Gordon’s work at Mermac had a significant impact on the lives of many people, including numerous clients, subcontractors, associates and employees, plus, of course, his own family.
When Gordon wasn’t working, he was still creating: model cars and planes with his children, intricate model train layouts, innovative pieces of woodwork, and, later on, some lovely paintings. One of his last projects, unfortunately unfinished, was an attempt to create the world’s best (and most humane) rat trap.
The loving care he took of the people and animals in his life was an example for us all. We will miss his laugh, his courage, his optimism, and his calm, quiet presence forever.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents and his brother Ken. He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Gail, his son Michael Robinson and his wife Nadine, his daughter Jennifer Robinson, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his brother Art Robinson and his wife Kathy, five nieces and nephews and their families, and Gail’s sister Carol Johnson.
Donations, if desired, could be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
