Obituary
David Gordon McWilliams, 82, of Bracebridge, Ontario, passed away October 7, 2022, in his sleep at Muskoka Hills Retirement Home. David was born in Toronto on September 12, 1940.
He is predeceased by his parents Henry Douglas McWilliams and Margaret Isabelle (Middleton) McWilliams. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Susan (McWilliams) and Ted Daglish, his nephew David Daglish and niece, Lauren Solar. David was never married.
David graduated from Forest Hill Collegiate, Ontario College of Art and York University with a BA in Geology/History. He travelled extensively with his professor on field trips to Japan, Kenya and Colorado. Dave was chosen to take an in-depth first aid course and was charged with that responsibility on these remote excursions.
David was a commercial artist until computers took over and he began to specialize in house portraits.
David loved sailing. He volunteered with a team of volunteers to build an exact replica of a supply ship used during the War of 1812; and the Bee is still berthed in Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene. He became the chief researcher for the project and was appointed to act as First Mate. At the Ontario College of Art, making costumes was on the curriculum. David made costumes for the seven crew, plus working and dress uniforms for the Captain and himself. For almost a decade, the Bee took out passengers for cruises and was used for weddings and other events.
Cremation has taken place. A gathering will take place in the spring at his favorite place, the family property. In memory of David, please donate to a charity of your choice.
