Daniel Frederick Francis Jessome Aged 52
After a courageous and lengthy battle with Cancer, Dan passed peacefully on May 7, 2023 at the South East Integrated Care Center in Moosomin Sask. surrounded by the love of his family. Dan was the son of the late Leo and Sylvia Jessome of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He is survived by the love of his life; Kim Gulka, his sons Tyler and Christopher and their mother Joan Marie Matheson Jessome; his grandchildren Lee and Sadie (all of Fort McMurray, Alberta), his sister Trish (George) and Brother Leo (Krista) nieces Quinn, Alyssa, Isabelle, and nephew Aaron (all of Nova Scotia). Dan will be very missed by his Gulka family; Madisyn , Alex, Kale, Ivy, Sam and Murphy as well as his many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins
Dan was a proud Cape Bretoner who was very connected to his heritage and grew up along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean; swimming and diving at the reef almost daily in the summer months. Although he left home at a young age, Dan maintained many close relational connections to his neighbors, friends and community. Dan loved the outdoors and found joy in hunting and fishing from a very young age. He introduced this passion to his boys and together they had many incredible adventures. If Dan wasn’t on an adventure, he was planning one. He took the risk and lived life to the fullest. Dan was an amazing storyteller with an ability to spread joy and laughter.
While a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders Militia, Dan decided to explore a career in the military where he excelled for 23 years, retiring as a Master Warrant Officer with EME Branch as a Weapons Tech. Dan found a home in the military He took great pride in being a soldier and representing Canada on the national and global stage His career took him through tours in Golan Heights, Kosovo, and Afghanistan while moving his family for postings in Gagetown, Edmonton and Wainwright . Dan was known for supporting his troops and being an exceptional leader. He left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
After retiring from the military Dan was employed in a number of industries, eventually taking him to Saskatchewan where he met the love of his life and spent his final years focusing on gratitude and love for his family with a little fishing, of course. Dan shared on FB in Oct 2022 “I looked up and thought just how lucky I am to simply have today …be thankful regardless of your circumstances because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed”.
There will be a small service to celebrate Dan’s life at Moosomin Lake where he spent so many hours/days these last years. This service will occur Thursday May 11, 2023 at 11 am at the Marina area. Arrangements to follow for a Military Burial Service at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa where Dan will be laid to rest among his military family.
For those who so desire, memorial tributes may be made to Quilts of Valour 1025 Terranova Dr. Ottawa, ON K1C 5M6 in memory of Danny.
