ENGEL, Cynthia (Cindy) Nyman
On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in her 82nd year, peacefully surrounded by her family. Devoted wife of the late Abraham (Bumy) Engel. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Stephanie, Eric and Annette, and Joshua. Treasured Bubbie of Aubrey, Everett and Chad, the three of whom she loved more than life itself. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Paula and Martin Nadler, Jason and Shirley Nyman, and Leah and the late Robert Gencher. Daughter of the late Samuel and the late Sarah Nyman. Cynthia will be deeply missed by her immediate and extended family, including her nieces and nephews, and her great many friends.
Known for her wonderful sense of humour, her welcoming nature and her engaging personality, she easily won friends everywhere she went. A talented journalist and writer, she wrote for the Ottawa Citizen, and for many years was the Editor of the Ottawa Jewish Bulletin. Readers eagerly awaited and enjoyed her witty and relatable columns. She lived on her own terms and fought a brave battle to the end. Above all, she loved and cared for her family and was adored by them. A special thanks to the Hematology Program and Supportive and Palliative Care Program at the Ottawa General Hospital for their care.
Donations in Cynthia’s memory may be made to the Cynthia and Abe Engel Endowment Fund at the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Funeral Service at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue, Ottawa on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 12:30p.m.
Interment to follow at Jewish Memorial Gardens, 6549 Herberts Corners Road, Osgoode.
