September 14, 1959 – July 20, 2023
On Thursday morning of July 20, 2023, Clayton Douglas Keith Bradbury of Thompson, MB left his family and friends suddenly and unexpectantly.
Clayton had been living with his daughter Candace and son-in-law Raymond in East Selkirk since being released from Thompson General Hospital at the end of February 2023. It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Clayton.
Clayton was born Clayton Douglas Keith Cleunion on September 14, 1959, to Margaret Louise Cleunion in Calgary, Alberta. At the age of 3 or 4, Clayton’s mother Margaret met Donald Hally Bradbury and they joined in marriage on July 6, 1965, moving the family to Boissevain where Don had a job with Correctional Services. Later, the Bradburys continued their adventures by moving to Carberry, MB where Clayton made many life-long friends. Clayton joined the Army in 1976, moving once again to Shilo, MB. While enlisted in the Canadian Army, he learned his trade and refined his mechanical skills. While in the Army, the family moved to Brandon, MB and Clayton would ride his 10-speed bike from Brandon to Shilo almost every day.
Clayton moved to Thompson, MB in 1980 where he met Martha Elizabeth Pynn, married her in August of 1984, and had two children, Justin and Candace. Clayton’s passion was as an aircraft mechanic for Lamb Air but, due to family responsibilities, Clayton started working for Manitoba Conservation in the fall of 1984 as a small engine mechanic. He continued working for Manitoba Conservation right up until his passing, totaling 38 years.
Clayton has had many hobbies in his life, from camping on various farm properties while living in the south, being a wedding photographer, or helping with the Stock Car Club in Thompson, MB. Throughout the years, Clayton was involved in Thompson Scouts, Thompson Wildlife Association, Junior Rifles, and the Thompson Handgun Club. Saying Clayton was a gun advocate is an understatement, often sharing his knowledge in gun laws, safety, and mechanics. He was so passionate about his advocacy, he served as vice president, president, treasurer, and more in the Thompson Handgun Club.
Clayton was a gentleman in all senses of the word. He was always willing to drop anything he was doing to help family, friends, or even strangers. He always had a smile and an ear ready for anyone, and you could often find Clayton at his Knife Crescent shop or frequenting one of the local restaurants. As a long-time Thompsonite, many people have fond memories of his help, company, and friendship.
Clayton is predeceased by his parents Donald and Margaret Bradbury, his brother Scott, and his son Justin Bradbury. He is survived by his brothers Derek and Jack (Kathy), his sister Elaine (Dave), his daughter Candace (Raymond), and his only granddaughter, Scarlet Rae.
The family would like to extend thanks to the home care team from Selkirk for the great care provided while Clayton was living with his daughter Candace and family in East Selkirk, MB.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at the Thompson Wildlife Building at 11:00 am on August 12, 2023 in Thompson, MB. Clayton will be laid to rest at a later date with his Mother Margaret and Son Justin in Bellsite, Manitoba.
