In Loving Memory of Christine R. Smith
1952 – 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Christine Rita Smith, wife of the late Terrence Smith of Miramichi, passed away surrounded by her family at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on June 12, 2023 at the age of 71.
Born in Chatham, NB, on January 15, 1952, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Brown) Barry. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend. Christine was the person who family and friends would go to for help, advice, or a listening ear. She was an “old soul,” mature from a young age, who showed deep understanding, kindness, compassion, and who always had wise words for those who came to her. Children had a special place in Christine’s heart, and she provided patient and loving care for many children throughout her life. Christine also had family roots in Scotland, with visits back and forth and many wonderful memories of her family there. She made a positive impact on everyone with whom she came into contact in her life. She will be deeply and profoundly missed.
Christine is survived by her daughters: Trudy Smith (Shawn Charlebois) of Swan River, MB and Stacey Smith (Gerry Dickson) of Napan; three grandchildren: Tyler Lewicki, Walker and Coleman Charlebois; one brother, Morris Barry (Kathy) of Miramichi; her sisters and brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Terrence Smith, sister Margaret Brown, and grandchild, “Little Terry”.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at the George Dumont Hospital in Moncton, especially Dr. Deslauriers, and the staff at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, especially in Emergency and ICU (“angels”), Extra Mural, and the staff of Integrity Home Care. Many people were involved in helping Christine in the last several months and showed the utmost compassion and care.
At Christine’s request there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023, at 3pm with The Reverend Father David Rioux as Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow, at the home of Stacey Smith and Gerry Dickson at 253 South Napan Road.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to The War Amps or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
