Chris Baker was born on January 21, 1970 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
From a young age he had a love for sports and enjoyed playing baseball, curling and football until he had to stop as a young adult. He had such an extensive knowledge of the sports and players that he loved from the MLB, NFL, CFL, NHL, and curling. At the top of his favourites though were his Blue Jays, Blue Bombers, and of course his Winnipeg Jets. He also had a huge place and love in his heart for animals, especially dogs and geckos.
As a young child Chris developed Type 1 diabetes and for more than four decades this terrible disease robbed him of so much. He required dialysis treatments for the last fifteen years. In 2010 he went through a double organ transplant in Montreal, and after an extensive hospitalization, both organs unfortunately failed. Chris was a strong-minded person and endured so many setbacks with his health; yet he still tried so hard to have a positive outlook on life. He knew his time was running out and often said to not be sad for him, but rather be happy for him when he would leave this world. His suffering came to an end on the morning of December 31, 2022, when he was taken in for emergency surgery, but there was nothing more that could be done.
He was a true and loyal friend to those he cared for most. He leaves behind his best friend Bonnie, with whom he shared decades of friendship and love. He will be missed by all that enjoyed his quick wit and humour.
Rest in peace Chris. You will always be loved and missed.
