Obituary
Woodburn, Charles “David”
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of David, beloved husband, uncle, brother and friend, who passed peacefully at Georgetown Hospital on March 15, 2023, at the age of 82 of complications from ALS.
Dave was born in Ottawa, Ontario to Alf and Minnie Woodburn on November 16, 1940, the second son of three boys. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 57 years, Ida Mae ( Bland), sister in laws Tawni, Raymonde, nephews Scott (Nancy), Steve (Inese), niece Jennifer (Ian) and grandnephew Tyler. Predeceased in death by brother in law Rick, brothers Gerry and Ken, sister in law Dorothy.
Upon graduation from Fisher Park High School Dave entered the business course at Ryerson which was the cornerstone for his successful business career. His first position was with Morgans (Hudson Bay Company) where he entered their management training programme. It was here that he met Ida Mae and they married August 21, 1965. Ida Mae has always said that she was so fortunate to be married to a man who gave her an unconditional and deep love for their entire marriage.
At The “Bay” Dave learned the importance of thinking globally and was one of the first Canadians in the furniture industry to escort study groups to the Far East. He was also the editor of “Forum”, a furniture magazine, that was published monthly and widely read by the industry. He left the Bay and worked for several years with Trimfit and then returned to become the HBC national furniture buyer. In 1983 Dave formed his own consulting company, Dave Woodburn Associates, for home products which he directed until his retirement in 2015.
Dave was a true gentleman as well as a gentle man. Words to describe Dave would be integrity, inclusiveness, generous and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone he met. He travelled extensively with business and had many travel adventures around the globe with Ida Mae. He was most happy puttering around his property, assisting on the executive of the Senior Men’s Luncheon, being a member of Senior Men’s Curling and enjoying the company of family and good friends. Dave was also very proud of his association with the 1962-63 Ryerson Rams who won the OIAA hockey championship.
The family would like to thank the entire staff from housekeeping , volunteers, nurses and doctors at CTC unit at Georgetown Hospital who helped Dave maintain his dignity during the last 3 months.
Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road on March 26th from 1-4. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life at North Halton Golf Club, 363 Maple Avenue, Georgetown on April 16th, at 1:00 pm and speeches at 1:45. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Dave’s memory to Food4Kids or a charity of choice.
