HUTCHISON,
Charles George Victor
(December 20, 1940 – August 21, 2023)
We the family of Chuck Hutchison wish to announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend, at Woodingford Lodge, Tillsonburg on August 21st, 2023, at the age of 82. Chuck was born in Tillsonburg, to the late Charles “Scotty” Hutchison (1963) and the late Mildred (Dodgson) Hutchison (1987). Predeceased by the love of his life Patricia Irene (Smith) Hutchison (2020) to whom he was married for 59 years.
Charles was a lifelong Tillsonburg resident and lived on Victoria Street for 72 years. He knew everything there was to know about the people, the houses, and his favourite, the “gully”, of that neighbourhood.
In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Charles owned and operated the Texaco station at the corner of Broadway and North Street. After that adventure he spent the next 27 years working at Timberjack in Woodstock before retiring in 1999.
Charles was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 153, Tillsonburg, and was a hockey fan who loved to watch his sons play as often as he could. He was also an avid volunteer with the Tillsonburg Maroons hockey club. Charles enjoyed working on cars, working around the house, and ensuring that all of the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks in the neighbourhood were well fed.
Charles is survived by his two sons and their families: Wayne Hutchison (Jennifer), of Vancouver, Washington, U.S.A. and their children: Sarah, Sidney (Ryan), Tamsen, Holly; and Robert Hutchison (Carrie), of Tillsonburg and their children: Stephanie and Brett. Greatly missed by his two great-granddaughters Ainslee and Mackenny. Also survived by his brother-in-law Glen Esseltine (Barbara) of London and sister-in-law Florence Smith of Tillsonburg (late husband Ronald, 2023).
In keeping with Charles’ wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will take place in the Delmer Cemetery in the near future. Everyone who knew Chuck is invited share favourite memories, photos, express personal condolences, or contribute memorial donations to the “Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 153, Poppy Fund” via Chuck’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes, Tillsonburg (519-842-4238), entrusted with all arrangements, with confidence.
“Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and PSWs at Woodingford Lodge, Tillsonburg, for their attentive care and kindness to Chuck and our family over the last year.”
