Charlaine Eleanor (Char) MacMartin
On April 20, 2023, following a lengthy illness where she showed enormous courage and strength it is with sadness that the family announce the passing of Charlaine MacMartin. She died peacefully at the age of 68 in the comfort of her home.
Char will be missed by her love of her life, husband and best friend of 47 years, Mike; loving son, Ryan; and her granddaughter, Rosalie who provided her with many hours of joy and laughter; sister-in-law Carolyn Castle and her husband Clint; brother-in-law, Brock MacMartin and his wife Louise; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many close personal friends.
Char was predeceased by her mother, Angela Nerfa; father, Ernest Nerfa; and her brother Michael.
Char worked for most of her life as a school administrator first in Winnipeg where she was born and raised and later when the family moved to Edmonton at Westbrook Elementary School until her retirement in 2021. She loved her job, the interactions with teachers and staff but mostly the students.
Char would be best described as a kind, caring and loving person always willing to help especially those in need. For those who knew her this is a sad time but a time to remember all the memories, love, and happiness she brought to everyone who knew her. She had fond memories of the many trips to her Uncle Al’s farm in Wakaw Saskatchewan and to Jasper which has a special place in her heart.
The MacMartin family would like to thank everyone for their messages, prayers, and support over the course of her illness especially all the doctors and nurses who provided care for her.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Char’s name be made to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her Life will be announced at a later date.
