NOWAKOWSKI, Rose Charin – With mixed feelings of peace and sadness, the Nowakowski family announce the passing of Mary Rose Charin Nowakowski (nee FIRLOTTE) on Saturday, April 15th, 2023 in her 86th year at the Welland Hospital. Beloved wife of Casey (Florian B.), married and devoted to each other for 62 years (September 17, 1960). Predeceased by her parents Joseph Everett and Mary Agrappina Firlotte, her brother Brent and her son Kevin. Cherished mother to Daren (Joyce) and step-grandmother to Benjamin (Tiffany Vine) Merritt, Nathan (Kristi Eberhardt) Merritt and Mitchell (Kelsey Marquis) Merritt. Great-grandmother to Keaton and Emmie. Survived also by her sister Sandra (Gary) Brunette, nieces Dana and Louise, nephew Paul, sister-in-law Valerie and members of her husband Casey’s family in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Kincardine, Ontario areas. Charin was born August 9, 1937 in Campbellton, NB and was raised in Jacquet River, NB. She was a dedicated and devoted nurse for several years with her career starting in the Sudbury area as a Graduate there. Later moving to work in the Chapleau area where she met her beloved husband Casey. A final move to the Niagara area, she helped community residents with homecare services and ended her nursing career on the 5th Floor (Woolcott Wing) of the WCGH. She was a caring and talented lady who loved creating many needlepoint works of art & quilting projects in her earlier years. Charin and Casey’s combined love of gardening relished many jars of preserves, beautiful flowers, plants and a haven for a variety of birds. She enjoyed golfing, northern camping with fishing, cribbage and other family games and several vacations to various locations of the world with her husband. Charin faced many hardships with declining health in her later years and her family is grateful for the nursing and medical care she received. Including staff at the Royal Rose LTC home in Welland, where Charin resided for nearly the past 7 years. May each one hang onto their treasured memories of her, as she is now finally at peace with loved ones and our Lord. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life for Charin will be held at the H.L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Saturday, April 29th, 2023 where family and friends can visit from 1 – 3:30 PM with her formal service to follow in the Cudney Chapel directly after.
