It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Cecilia Baillie, age 91 of Mira Gut / Glace Bay, on Saturday, April 29th, 2023 in the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Cecilia was the daughter of the late Neil and Catherine (Steele) Burroughs.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay. Cecilia enjoyed bowling, quilting and playing cards with the lady’s club. She was a very independent, kind, happy and strong lady who loved her family and friends dearly. Cecilia was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Wendell) McNeil, Sandra “Sandi” (Kenneth) McNamara and her pride and joy, grandchildren, Amie Cecile McNeil (Courtney), Kyle McNeil, Jessica McNamara (Josh), great grandchildren, Jonah William and Nora McNeil as well as nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Cecilia was predeceased by her loving husband, William “Bill” Baillie, her son, David and her siblings.
A special thank you to Cecilia’s neighbor and friend, Clive Kennedy and to New Waterford Homecare and the VON.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A private burial will take place in Black Brook Cemetery.
