LADOUCIER, Bernie (Carl Bernard)
Bernie passed away with dignity and courage surrounded by his loving family and close friends at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on September 18th, 2023, in his 82nd year.
He was the loving husband of Elizabeth (Jenkinson), devoted father of Scott and Kerry, and much cherished Papa of Andrew (Stefany), Daniel, James, and Molly (Steve), and great grandfather to Marley, Andres, Adrianna, and Zander.
He is predeceased by his brothers Bob and David; survived by his siblings Sheila Petrie, Judy Woodley, and Daniel Ladoucier.
Throughout his career Bernie worked in post secondary Co-Operative Education, at Fanshawe College in London and later at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough. A true highlight of his career was when he was recognized for his contributions to Co-operative Education with the national Albert S. Barber Award. His ability to understand and connect with his students, led many of them over the years to fondly recall him as their favourite professor.
Bernie was an animal lover, talented wildlife artist, avid golfer, and enjoyed refinishing and building furniture and was extremely proud of his native heritage. Everyone who knew Bernie, knew his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband for 57 years; a wonderfully supportive father and he shared a special bond with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Bernie at the Peterborough Curling Club at 2195 Lansdowne St on Sunday, October 22nd from 2 until 4 pm, eulogies at 2:30. In keeping with Bernie’s wishes, friends and family are asked to wear casual/golf attire.
Bernie’s family would like to thank his many caregivers at PRHC and at St Joseph’s at Fleming, and the friends and family who have supported them during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernie’s memory can be made to LAWS (Lakefield Animal Welfare Society) or to Home Children Canada.
