William ‘Bill”s Obituary
Our lives changed forever on July 31, 2024. It is with great sadness that the family announces that William Squires has completed his earthly life journey, passing away at home in Sibley’s Cove, four days before his 96th birthday. Born in Sibley’s Cove, August 4, 1928, the oldest of six children.
Bill will always live in the memories of his children: Bob (Donna), Glenn (Sharon), Gail (Rick East), and Heather (Ron Bavis); grandchildren: Tracy, Christopher, Renee, Ryan, Matthew, Michael, Allie, and Hannah; great-grandsons: Max, Evan, Rafael, Nolan, Noah, William, Jacob, and Theodore; brothers: Don (Nellie) and Max (Elsie); sister: Rose Somers; sister-in-law; Marlene Clarke. Bill leaves a very close large circle of wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by treasured wife Joan; parents: Pascoe and Susie; brother: Frank (Ruth); sister: Alice (Vince Green); brother-in-law: Hal Somers.
Bill was an accomplished entrepreneur from the age of 14 years, building various successful businesses. A proud Newfoundlander, historian, church attendee, lover of driving, and a love of people. Bill was a loyal member of Sibley’s Cove Orange Lodge, RBP, longest reigning member of the Masonic Lodge, Heart’s Conteny, a Mazol Shriner, and a founding member of the Trinity Conception Shrine Club.
The family would like to extend gratitude to everyone who helped Dr. Gert Nell, Dr. P. Halloway and homecare worker Nita Sparkes.
Everyone who met Bill walked away with new stories and a lasting impression. He taught us to appreciate hard work, to live life to the fullest, to give with a generous heart and most importantly to always be there for each other.
