Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Ross Sydney Janes announce his passing on Friday, November 22, 2024. Ross passed peacefully at the age of 79, surrounded by family and his beloved dog, Sabrina, at Bonnews Lodge.
Ross is lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Pamela Janes (nee Sturge); son Leslie (Katelyn); his brothers, Tom (Pearl) and Baxter (Celia); Sisters-in-law Mona (Wade), Audrey, Sheila, Lori (Don), Cordale; brothers-in-law Bill (Alicia) and Terry. Ross is predeceased by his parents, Baxter and Violet Janes; sisters Pearl (Ray) and Lillian (Max); sister-in-law June; and brother-in-law Shawn. He will be dearly missed by a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as his wonderful friends and family-like staff at Bonnews Lodge.
Born in Safe Harbour on September 15, 1945, Ross made Badgers Quay his home, together with his parents and 3 siblings. Ross was a man of great kindness, perseverance, and cheeky wit! He was a hard worker who overcame many challenges throughout his career while providing for his family.
Known for his kind heart and gentle words, Ross was a familiar face to many. He proudly volunteered many years as a Lion, helping his community, and making many good friends.
He loved spending time watching hockey with his son Leslie, or winning several games of bingo! His quick, sweet sense of humour, his stories, and comforting presence will be missed by everyone who was blessed to have known him. Above all, Ross was a man with a big heart, a strong spirit, and although he was at times a man of few words, he would confidently answer with a big thumbs up, or a simple nod of the head.
At families request cremation will take place.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Kittiwake Funeral Home in Pound Cove, on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. L. Daka officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
We ask those attending the service to please refrain from wearing any scented products due to severe scent allergies. We thank you in advance!
The family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors, staff, and care providers who entered into Ross’s life over the years. An extra warm thank you goes to the staff of Brookefield Hospital and to everyone at Bonnews Lodge. Thank you for everything you have done!
As an expression of sympathy flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to The Recreation Department, Bonnews Lodge, Badger’s Quay, NL.
