Obituary
Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Long Term Care on Friday, December 6, 2024, Ronald (Ron) Edward Young age 80 years, formerly of Twillingate. Predeceased by his parents Cecil and Violet Young and his younger brother Gary Young. Leaving to mourn his wife of 23 years, Lila (nee Mercer); son Grant and his children Shannon, Colby and Brianna; daughter Lolene and her children Zoe, Katie and Josie, stepson Jason Drennan (Amber) and his family. Also leaving to mourn his beloved sister Josephine and her husband and Ron’s best friend, Jack Jenkins and their family and many nieces and nephews and dear friends and extended family members.
Ron was a former police officer with the Ontario police, OPP. He was also the founder and editor of the Downhome Magazine. Through the wit and humor of his writings of books, poetry and songs. People around the world got to know and love him and his perspective on life. His fierce love of Newfoundland and Labrador was something for which he will always be remembered. His willingness to always stop and chat with anyone he met brought folks such joy.
Special thank you to Dr. Colin Penny and the staff at Agnes Pratt for your amazing care of Ron over the past few years.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
