Patrick J. “Pat” Power, BA.ED, BA., M.ED
October 29, 1945 – December 21, 2024
Passed away at St. John’s on 21 December 2024 , at the age of 79 yrs. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary (Walsh) Power, infant brother Thomas, brother Raymond and wife Laverne (Bennett) Power.
Leaving to mourn, wife; Estelita, daughter; Renée (Neil) Comisky, grandson; Ryan Comisky, step children; Maria Fetalver, Mark and Brianna Gallant, sister; Cecilia Williams, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives, friends, colleagues and associates.
Born on 29 October 1945 in Great Bona, Placentia Bay, Pat grew up in Point-au-Mall and Stephenville, NL. He graduated from St. Stephen’s Central High School in 1962, whereupon he entered Memorial University of Newfoundland, earning two bachelor degrees and later completed a Masters in Administration at the University of Toronto.
He taught six years in the secondary school system, then in 1970 he acquired a position as English teacher in the Post Secondary School System. The following year (1971-72) he became an administrator and continued in various administrative positions for 30 years, retiring as District Administrator for the College of the North Atlantic, Stephenville.
Pat was very active in the community, especially in the area of Community and Economic Development. He established several organizations in the Bay St. George area and chaired numerous boards both regionally and provincially. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus serving in most officer positions including Grand Knight.
Cremation has already taken place. Visitation at Russell’s Funeral Home in Stephenville on 29 December 2024, between 2:00 – 4:00 o’clock P.M. and between 7:00 – 9:00 o’clock P.M. Rosary will be at 3:00 o’clock PM.
The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Stephen’s Church, Stephenville on 30 December 2024 at 10:00 o’clock AM. Inurnment to follow at Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Stephenville, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
