Maureen Sheppard
October 31, 1956 – May 2, 2024

Passed peacefully away at the palliative care unit of the Miller Center, after a brief illness, surrounded by family, Maureen Sheppard (née English), age 67 years, of St. John’s, NL.
Predeceased by her parents Ignatius and Mary (Furlong) English, her parents-in-law George and Blanche (Hardy) Sheppard, her brother Brian F. English, and her loving pets, especially her cat Simon and her grand-dog Ruger.
Deeply missing her unique presence and loving companionship are her husband Wilbert (Bert) Sheppard, her daughter Laura Sheppard (Matt) and her son William (Bill) Sheppard (Desiree); also her sisters Eleanor Vincent (Fraser) and Mary Carter (Lindy), her brothers Ron English (Nora), Bill English (Glenda Barron), and Dennis English (Rosalind), as well as her brother-in-law Ken Sheppard (Marion) and sisters-in-law Jean Day and Barbara Williams, her nieces Jillian, Christine, Susan, Angela, Sheena and Sara, her nephews Tim, Matt and Joe, and her many cousins and friends.
Maureen had a long and successful career in health care as an x-ray and ultrasound professional at the old and new Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centres. She loved her work, thriving among the devoted professionals who care each day for children from every part of our Province. In his own medical role her husband Bert joined her everyday at the same workplace. They shared for decades their love of the work, the colleagues, the children and, in Maureen’s work, the many hundreds of expectant parents to whom she had to impart news, mostly happy and sometimes sad, that was so important to their lives. After retirement she took up photography and continued to create skilled images of nature, birds and other beautiful things that fascinated her.
Grateful thanks are extended to all the palliative care, nursing and medical professionals who helped with Maureen’s care over the past several months.
Maureen’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Caul’s Funeral Home. Cremation will take place at her request.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Caul’s Funeral Home, Lemarchant Road, St. John’s.
Funeral service will be held at on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Caul’s Chapel, Lemarchant Road. Interment at a later date to be announced.
Flowers will be gratefully accepted. Donations in Maureen’s memory may be made to the Humane Services of the City of St. John’s, the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
