Obituary
Passed peacefully away surrounded by loving and supportive family members on June 13, 2024, just three weeks shy of his 92nd birthday, Leo Patrick Gosse.
Leo’s passing marks the end of an era as he was the last and youngest of 7 siblings. Born July 3, 1932 to Patrick and Bridget Gosse and despite losing his Dad at a very young age, Leo enjoyed a joyful and memorable west end childhood filled with love, laughter, family and of course, sports. The Gosse family home on Hamilton Ave. (“The House”) was always filled with laughter and banter and Purity products. Baseball, hockey and bowling, where Leo excelled were his passions and he bowled into his eighties, enjoying the camaraderie of the retired men’s league. True to his west end roots, Dad enjoyed a long career at Mammy’s Bakery, fulfilling several roles, including goaltender on the Commercial Hockey League team, making lasting friendships. lt was during his time as a delivery sales driver he met the love of his life, Lillian who worked at the East End Bakery.
They had 4 children and enjoyed life together until Lillian’s passing in 2002. A proud Holy Cross Crusader, he closely followed provincial Challenge Cup soccer and Senior baseball and always wanted to know how “Cross” was doing. A lifelong Red Sox, Maple Leafs and Packers fan he rejoiced when the Sox ended the Curse in 2004, when the Packers won the Super Bowl but alas the Leafs…he would love to tell stories from the glory days in the sixties, “Sawchuck stoned them one night, Bower the next night”. Leo quietly missed Lillian through the years and would lament how much she would have enjoyed watching their grandchildren grow and succeed in their lives as he enjoyed every moment possible. He was a man of modest means but rich in support and guidance. Always present. Family first.
Left to celebrate his life, sons: Leo (Sandra), Mike; daughters: Joann (Paul Whelan), Sandra; grandchildren: Zachary Gosse (Stephanie), Allison Sooley (Devon), Chelsea Gosse, Victoria Whelan, Brett Whelan, Mekhi Babb-Gosse, Deven Gosse; great granddaughter Tilly Sooley, along with nieces, nephews and friends.
As per Leo’s wishes, there will be no visitation and a celebration of life will be held at 10:00am on Monday, August 12, 2024 at Caul’s Chapel, 84 LeMarchant Road. lnurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Rest easy Pop, we’ll take it from here.
