Obituary
Kevin Dobbin, age 85, passed peacefully away after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit in St. John’s.
Predeceased by his cherished grandson, Jason Dobbin; parents, Cyril and Catherine “Kitty” Dobbin; sister, Catherine Whelan (Cyril); brother, Cyril (Barbara); sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Penney; parents-in-law, Albert and Jennie Loveys (nee Nelder); brother-in-law, Alwyn (Mary); sister-in-law, Daphne Noseworthy (Jack); and brother-in-law, Robert (Joan).
Left with a lifetime of cherished and amazing memories is his wife and best friend of 62 years, Cynthia “Cindy” Dobbin (nee Loveys); children: Bert (Paula), DeAnne Efford (Glenn), Rodney (Mary Snow) and Denise Clark (Dana); grandchildren: Cortney (Curtis), Katelyn (Dustin), K, Lindsey (Adam), Lauren (Fred), Matthew (Katie) and Christopher; and great-grandchildren: Kaia, Zoey, Jayden, and Casey, all of whom loved him dearly. Also left to mourn are his loving brother, Shaun (Loretta); brother-in-law, Don Penney; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends that he treasured.
Kevin was involved in the printing trade throughout his life. He came from a family of printers, and that tradition continues on through his own. Kevin adored his family, and cherished time spent making memories with them—especially at his cabin on Juniper Lake. He spent many hours swimming in the pond with his pool noodles, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He especially loved to travel with Cindy, and they enjoyed many road trips throughout their happy life together. He was a man of many talents who loved hunting, fishing, berry-picking, bowling, gardening, music, cards, and watching any and every sport. A lifelong learner, Kevin learned to play guitar, piano, and accordion. Kevin was the posterboy of fitness, and inspired those around him to stay active and fit. He loved any excuse for a special occasion, and enjoyed celebrating special moments with a drink of rum (or two).
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mark Porter, Kevin’s longtime physician, Dr. Susan MacDonald and all the staff at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre, as well as all the homecare workers at Compassion Home Care, for their kindness and care.
Cremation has taken place, and the family will receive visitors at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road on Thursday, December 5th from 5pm–9pm. Funeral service will take place in the Chapel at Caul’s Funeral Home on Friday, December 6th at 1 pm. Kevin will be peacefully laid to rest at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Columbarium.
