Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Henry James Thorne announce his passing on Wednesday morning at St.Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St.John’s at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by his parents Nathaniel and Esther Thorne, his brother George Thorne, parents in law Arthur and Lillian White, brothers in law Raymond and Arthur Gerald White and sisters in law Daisy and Rowena White.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 59 years, Marion (nee White), son Scott Thorne (Lori), daughter Cheryl Thorne (Neil Sullivan). His three precious grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Ben and Kate Thorne and Keely Fillier and he always pleasantly welcomed Sarah and Sydney Sullivan into the fold with a smile and song. His sister Carrie Riddle (Bob), sisters-in-law Donna Thorne, Geraldine Vicars (Paddy), Marina White and Linda White. Brothers in law Ed, Gordon and Eric White (Marie); also a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Henry worked for 39 years with the provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador in several roles throughout his career. He retired in 1995 as Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2002 Henry was awarded a certificate of merit from the law society of Newfoundland to recognize his services to the law, the president and benches of the Law Society of Newfoundland.
Henry was an active volunteer within his community and church. His happy place was to be with his family, gardening and walking throughout Torbay and Quidi Vidi Lake.
Visitation to take place at Caul’s Funeral Home, Torbay, on Saturday, November 16, from 7-9pm and on Sunday, November 17, from 2pm-9pm. Funeral service will be held from St. Nicholas’ Anglican Church, Torbay, on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11:00am, with inurnment to follow at St. Nicholas Anglican Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy donations can be made in Henry’s memory to the St. Nicholas Anglican Church Building Fund.
