It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas William Penney. Sr. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Doug, at the age of 89 years, passed peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
As we honour Doug’s life, it is hard not to recognize the remarkable man he was and the profound impact that he left on anyone who was privileged enough to share any amount of time with him. Doug was a pillar of strength in his family, and a man whose dedication and love shaped countless lives. Doug’s journey was one of hard work and unwavering commitment. From the early mornings (and late nights) spent tirelessly providing for his family as a distributor for Harvey’s Home Heating, his dedication and care for those around him stands out above all else. His career wasn’t just a job—it was a testament to his work ethic and his deep sense of responsibility to those he loved so much. Doug raised seven children alongside the love of his life, his soulmate, Joan, with grace and wisdom, imparting values of love, integrity, and resilience. His Mundy Pond home was a sanctuary of warmth, not just from the home heating he provided, but from love that radiated within its walls. His family was his greatest joy – and his children and grandchildren will carry his legacy forward with pride. The lessons Doug taught us all through his words and his actions will remain a guide for how one should live life. As we bid farewell for now, his memory will no doubt carry forward in each of us, a testament to the enduring legacy of a remarkable man.
Predeceased by his adoring wife, Joan; sons, Doug and Barry; daughter, Debbie (Greg); parents, Alex and Mary Penney; sisters, Loretta (Ron) and Rosiland; brothers, Ron (Dolores) and Richard; father and mother-in-law James and Louise Escott; sisters-in-law Marg (Lee), Shirl (Bill), Beth (Jack), Loretta (Doug), and Louise; as well as brothers-in-law Jim, Edward, and Gerry. Leaving to mourn with everlasting memories are his children, Beverly (Ed), Alex (Deanne), Sandra (Derrick) and Gerry (Karen); his grandchildren, Darcy, Melissa, Jamie, Kayla, Jeremy, Alexander, Derrick, Zachary, Stephanie, Jessica, Emily, Barry and Ben; great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Mark, Hailey, Amber, Madison, Jett, Mason, Jase, Rylan, his little princess Brianna, and Nicholas; as well as his great-great-grandson Kal’el. Also leaving to mourn is Doug’s daughter-in-law, Shelly Penney. Doug is also remembered by his brother, Roger; sister, Dallas; and sister-in-law, Liz Penney. Also leaving to mourn is his sister-in-law Carolann (Fred); as well as in-laws Bev Escott, and Bill Manning, along with other family members.

Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Wednesday from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at a time to be announced from St. Teresa’s Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted, or a donation may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.
