Obituary
Passed away peacefully after a long illness at the Glenbrook Lodge on November 23, 2024. Catherine Mary Baxstrome, aged 87.
Kay was predeceased by the love of her life, Fred, with whom she was married for 63 years, as well as her parents, Kathleen and Michael McCarthy, her brothers Patrick and Michael McCarthy, sisters-in-law Donna McCarthy, Judy McCarthy, Doris McCarthy, Betty Mulrooney, Sheila Lutze and brothers-in-law John Mulrooney and Richard Follett.
A loving mother, she leaves to mourn: daughter Sheila Baxstrome, son Fred Baxstrome (Elizabeth), daughter Kim Delaney (Tim), granddaughter Kailey Baxstrome, her beloved sister Barb Follett, brothers Sandy McCarthy, Tommy McCarthy, sister-in-law Joyce McCarthy and brothers-in-law Wayne Lutze and Peter Mackey as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
As our Dad would say, nobody worked harder than our mother – she was the glue that kept the family together. A lifelong animal lover, she had a passion for purebred dogs which she shared with Fred. She was a 52-year member of the Canadian Kennel Club and permanently registered their kennel, Maracaibo, breeders of many show champions and Best in Show winners. Although involved in many breeds over the years, her true love was the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, especially her special dog, Ruffles. Kay was an avid gardener. She loved to tend to her flower beds and have flowers in the home. Both Fred and Kay enjoyed travelling and her happy place was Ireland. She had visited the Emerald Isle on seven occasions. Another of Kay’s sources of enjoyment was in treating her granddaughter, Kailey, to a day of shopping, just the two of them.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, on Thursday, November 28, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 from Caul’s Chapel, 84 LeMarchant Road, at 12:30 p.m. For those unable to attend the funeral in person but are wishing to do so virtually, please visit: event.forgetmenotceremonies.com/ceremony?c=66893c19-6d6e-4681-9526-7633774d39ca. Internment will take place following the service at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road.
