Obituary
It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of Bertha Mary Rose mourn her sudden passing on June 26, 2024 at the age of 84 years.
Predeceased by her parents, Cyril and Isabelle Pine; brother, Mike (Mary); sister, Mary (Ramsay); and her special daughter, Andrea (Andrew).
Leaving to mourn, with fond and loving memories, her husband of 56 years, John. Bertha will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Ian (Vicki) and Melanie and her grandsons, Gavin and Liam. She loved them with all her heart. Also leaving to mourn are her siblings, Maureen (Jerome, deceased) and Louis as well as all of her in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved them all deeply, especially close cousin Louis Greene.
Bertha lived her life with the utmost grace and positivity. She had a zest for life and a youthfulness that was unmatched. Her great personal strength, combined with the love and support of John, allowed her to face life’s challenges head on, and to push through each new day, one foot ahead of the other. She had a way of making people feel comfortable, whomever she met. Bertha showed great pride in everything she did. Her energy, and steadfast nature was a compass for our entire family. She led a dedicated work life as secretary to deputy ministers. Growing up on a dairy farm, Bertha was a lover of all animals, great and small. She was an avid gardener and took immense joy in preparing her yard every year with beautiful flowers. In her early retirement, Bertha dedicated her life to caring for her daughter Andrea. We can only hope and have faith that they are together now in peace.
She was always one to make a cake or a loaf of bread for someone in need. She was involved in her community and had a wide circle of friends, of all ages. Each were very special to her, especially her friend Sylvia Miller.
Visitation will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home, Torbay Road on Sunday, June 30th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, July 2nd at 11 a.m at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Outer Cove with inurnment to follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bertha’s memory will be greatly appreciated to the SPCA or the MS Society.
