Roger was born in St. John’s on Nov. 15 1940. He is predeceased by his parents Samuel & Muriel Pike. Leaving to mourn, son Ward (Crystal), daughter Lynn (David Bruce) their mother Ida (Hillyard) Pike, daughter Kristin Pike & partner Kate; grandchildren: Tiffany (Gary Stevenson) Jesse, William, Benjamin, Christopher Pike, Samuel & Charlotte Bruce; great granddaughter, Rosa Stevenson; Nancy Dawe former partner of 11 years and a integral part of Lynn & David and their children’s young lives; brothers: Humphrey (Maggie), Warwick, Philip (Yvonne), Sisters: Juanita (Chesley Roberts), Sandra (William Noel) many nieces, nephews & extended family.
Roger was an extraordinary businessman & entrepreneur. He was one of the founding members of Central Dairies & was instrumental in the early development of the dairy processing business in NL. He also had a profound love of flying & built a fledgling airline, Labrador Airways, into the regional airline Air Labrador. He flew one of the few remaining DC3 aircraft onto the Hr. Grace Airfield & donated it to the town as a tribute to the history of aviation in the area and the “Spirit of Hr. Grace”. He was also involved in the NL fishery with plants in Comfort Cove & Twillingate and was an important part of the transport industry through his companies Pro-ex & Pikes Transport. He was President & CEO of Harvey & Co. St. John’s & Corner Brook as well as many other business ventures. He was a recipient of the Order of St. George as well as Honorary Colonel of 103 Rescue Squadron RCAF Gander NL. His passion for horses & farm life was realized on his North River Ranch where he loved getting close to nature.
Things will be strangely quiet in our lives without his presence. Rest easy & Godspeed.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia/Alzheimer Society NL.
Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Nov. 01, 2023 with the funeral service to follow at Elim Pentecostal Church, Kenmount Road, St. John’s at 2:00 PM. A committal service will be held at the United Church cemetery, Hr. Grace on November 02, 2023 at 2:00PM.
