Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Joy McCarthy and Dr. Hayward at the cancer clinic who have done everything they could for Brendan in the last 2.5 years; Dr. Rogers and the Palliative Care Team, The Paramedicine Program, the Emergency Department at the Health Science Center and staff of 5 North A for your endless compassion and care shown to Brendan and our family.
Brendan held many titles over the years but found the most pride in his roles as father and grandfather. Brendan lit up every room he walked into and made friends with everyone he met. He truly was everyone’s favourite. His kindness, warmth, smile, love and laughter were felt by everyone who met him. Brendan was always positive, supportive and there for anyone and everyone when it was needed. Even through his sickness, Brendan always had a smile on his face and was able to find positivity and joy in life. He always said “never ask why” because “we’re not meant to know”. Brendan had a strong faith that was unwavering through every situation he faced right to his final moment.
He enjoyed fondly playing Radio Bingo on Saturday nights with Glenys, watching hockey games and cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs, going for drives, hunting, trying his luck with a new recipe and making his handyman abilities available to others. Brendan could turn his hand to anything and if someone was in need and he believed he could help, Brendan’s talented hands, and ever-loving heart, were there to make it happen. Brendan’s biggest joy was his family and friends. He enjoyed having a house full of people to entertain and of course listening to music. He spent many nights over the years in the shed at his best buddies Keith and Connie Hatcher’s enjoying a hockey game, the cabin party, music, dancing and fun where he made many cherished memories. We should all be so blessed as to have someone like Brendan in our lives.
