It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Bernice Beck Handrigan of St. Lawrence, NL announces her passing. Bernice passed away at the U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence, NL on November 27, 2024 at the age of 93.
Bernice lived a life marked by her unwavering kindness, dedication to family, and love for her community.
A woman of quiet strength, Bernice was known for her soft-spoken nature and her gentle spirit. She dedicated many years of her life to teaching Sunday school, where her love for children and her commitment to shaping young minds left a lasting impact on many families. Her faith and kindness were evident in all aspects of her life, and she lived by the values of compassion and service.
In addition to her work in the church, Bernice ran a small corner store, where she greeted every customer with a warm smile and a listening ear. Her shop was not just a place to buy goods, but a gathering spot for many in the community, where she created an atmosphere of trust and care.
Bernice had a deep love for her family, and her grandchildren were truly the pride and joy of her life. She delighted in spending time with them, always making them feel loved and cherished. In her spare time, Bernice enjoyed relaxing with crossword puzzles, a pastime that brought her great joy and satisfaction. Her ability to complete even the toughest puzzles was a testament to her sharp mind and patience.
Bernice leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and love that will be remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Harold Beck (Maxine) of St. Lawrence; daughter-in-law, Daphne Beck of St. Lawrence; grandchildren, Sophia Watkins (Dave), Kay Beck (Keith), Justin Beck; great-grandchildren, Cody, Adam, Amber; great great-grandchildren, Chloe and Weston; sisters, Helen Hause (Clarence), Ruby Pike; brother, Cyril Green; special friend, Ella Pike; homecare workers, Lorie Beck and Dawn Beck; many nieces and nephews; plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Bernice was predeceased by husbands, William Beck and Adolph Handrigan; daughter, Goldie Beck; son, Gary Beck; parents, Frances & William Green; sisters, Margaret Coady (Pat), Beryl Inkpen (Harold), Marie Beck (Albert); brothers, Harold Green, Bill Green (Beatrice); sister-in-law, Yvonne Green; brother-in-law, Eric Pike.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
The Beck Handrigan Family will be accepting visitors at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in St. Lawrence on:

A funeral service will take place at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church on:
Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00am
Interment to follow at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cemetery.
