Adele Margaret Cheeseman (nee Doody) passed peacefully away, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Chancellor Park, St. John’s, 2 days following her 99th birthday. Adele was born and raised in Duricle then moved to Rushoon to teach in 1946, where she met her husband, Charles, a schooner captain.
Leaving to remember her wonderful life are her daughter, Josephine Cheeseman, son, Norbert Cheeseman (Susan Evans) and daughters-in-law, Marion and Minda Cheeseman, along with her grandchildren: Krista Ennis (Jim), Stephen Cheeseman (Vicki), Cindy Brake (Chris), Mark Cheeseman (Whitney) Luke Cheeseman and step-grand-daughter, Rebecca Rose (Jeff); and great-grandchildren: Maria, Natalie, Ryan, Emma, Gracie, Chloe, Weston, Everleigh and Theo.
Sadly, Adele lost her husband, Charles, in 1997 and her sons Daniel in 2018 and Charlie in 2022. She was the final Doody in her family.
Adele spent her life giving to others and was very active in her community and church; she had many interests and talents, among them baking, quilting, calligraphy and entertaining. Her favorite role was being a Mother and she was adored by all who knew her for her kindness and generosity.
The Cheeseman family would like to thank and acknowledge the compassionate staff of Chancellor Park for their exemplary care over the past 4 years during Adele’s final years.
