Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that the family of Roy Brett Arthur Hodder, age 93, announce his peaceful passing into the presence of his Lord and Saviour on September 9th, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones in his home in Stoneville.
A devoted outdoorsman, Dad had a lifelong passion for trapping, hunting, fishing, logging, gardening, berry picking, and boat building. The woods, brooks, and ponds were his sanctuary, where he found peace and joy. Whether setting traps, trekking through the woods during hunting season, or using his wood working skills to build a new boat, he was truly in his happy place, always eager to share his love for the outdoors with his family
Dad was a man of deep faith, finding strength and guidance in God throughout his life. His unwavering devotion was evident in the way he lived – with kindness, integrity, and love for those around him. He was a pillar of the community and church, with a deep love for people whom he would witness to whenever an opportunity arose.
Above all, Dad cherished his family. A loving husband to his wife Maisie, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage, just before her passing in 2007. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, he found his greatest happiness in the time spent with those he loved. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, stories of his adventures, lessons in the simple pleasures of life, and his unique style of guitar playing and gospel music.
Roy is predeceased by his loving wife Maisie; parents, Thomas and Cecilia Hodder; brothers, Sidney, Olindo, Eli, Garfield, Harvey, Lambert, Lindsay; sister, Vera Ginn; son –in- law, Pastor Ivan Bennett.
Left with loving memories are his children, Gary (Wavey), Eileen, Ivy (Currie), Dulcie (Craig), Brian (Tina), Velma (Guy), David (Cindy), Dwayne (Susan), Paulette (Morris), Bruce (April), Lorne (Nichole), Lori (Mark), Kevin (Kayla) and Geoffrey (Megan); sisters, Sadie (Guy), Beatrice; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his dog Lucy as well as a large circle of family and friends.
Public visitation will take place from the Pentecostal Church, Stoneville on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 2-4PM and 7-9PM. As well as Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM.
The funeral service will take place from the Pentecostal Church, Stoneville on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11AM. Interment will then follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Stoneville, NL.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gideons in his memory, will be gratefully accepted.
Though he has left us in body, Dad will forever be with us in spirit, his legacy living on through the family he loved and the memories he created in the woods and waters he called home. He fought a good fight, he finished the course.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL.
