It is with sadness that the family of the late Geoffrey William Kelly announces his passing at the Carmelite House, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL aged 73 years.
Geoff leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Gail; son, Matthew (Erin); daughter, Sara (Adam); grandchildren, Alexander, Daphne, & Conan; brother, Robert; sister, Judy; as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Geoff is predeceased by his parents, Geoffrey & Mary Jo Kelly; grandson, Henry; brothers Terry, John, & Noel; sister, Edwina.
Geoff Kelly, born in St. John’s and raised in Aguathuna, was the youngest of seven children, graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundand with a B.Ed. and later with an M.Ed. He began his career in St. Anthony as a high school teacher and later found his passion in adult education.
He met Gail in 1974. They were married in 1975 and began a family in 1981 before moving to Baie Verte where he took on an Administrative position at the Vocational College later that same year.
A strong supporter of the local business community in Grand Falls-Windsor, Geoff was an active member of both the Exploits Regional Chamber of Commerce and CBDC. He was a proud grandfather and in quieter moments he took time for walking, reading, taking in the news and keeping up-to-date on world events.
He loved cabin life and over the years made many friends in Southern Lake area. He was also an avid traveller and he and Gail enjoyed visiting family in Ottawa, the Ottawa Valley, Toronto and Halifax. They especially enjoyed spending time touring isolated Newfoundland communities together, visiting the Caribbean and traveling throughout western Europe, having made several trips across the Atlantic since their first three-month tour in the late 1970s.
While Geoff was a private person, he had many lifelong friends and enjoyed cooking for both the family and a crowd.
Those who were fortunate to know him knew him well. He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dean, Dr. Buttler, Dr. Robbins & 4A & Carmelite nurses staff for their endless kindness & care during these past months.
As per Geoff’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
