It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phoebe Burt Cox of Grand Bank, NL (formerly of Boxey) on Friday, May 10, 2024, following a brief illness at the age of 75. She was surrounded by her family and is now finally at peace, joining her soulmate, Willie and cherished puppy Mandy.
Phoebe was predeceased by her husband, William Cox; grandson, David Thornhill; parents, Philip & Susannah Blagdon; mother in law, Bertha Cox; sisters, Selina Sutlik and Bella Cox; brothers in law, Randolph Cox and Wendell Cluett; nieces, Judy Cox, Katrina Blagdon and Dana Cox; nephews, Dwayne Snook and Anthony Cox.
She is survived by her children Tracey (Ross) Thornhill, Andrew (Heather) and Jamey (Vicky); grandchildren, Isabella (Kris), Kayla, Alexander, Kaia, Lexi, and Gavin; father in law, Garfield Cox Sr.; siblings, Rita (Ray) Abbott, Henry (Brenda), Clyde (Paula) and Marjorie (Chuck) Forsey; plus a large circle of nieces, nephews and many more family and friends.
Phoebe was a kind, caring and generous person. Always there when someone needed a helping hand. She generously donated to World Vision for over 40 years, fostering many children. Phoebe had an unwavering faith that was evident through her involvement in the Anglican church including the vestry, choir and ACW. She loved being in the kitchen, briefly owning a restaurant serving her famous deep-fried chicken and later baking for the community as a fundraiser for the Parkinson’s Society. Also volunteering in the community for many years.
The family extends gratitude to the caring staff at St. Luke’s Home in St. John’s for their dedicated care over the past two years.
No flowers by Phoebe’s request, instead she requested that donations be made in her memory to the At. Alban’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund.
Visitation will take place at Wiseman’s Funeral Home, Grand Bank on:
Monday, May 13th
2:00pm to 4:00pm
7:00pm to 9:00pm
Funeral Service will take place at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Grand Bank on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 2:00pm.
Interment to follow at St. Alban’s Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank.
