It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Marie Marsh of Garnish announces her passing. Marie passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving daughters at the U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence on Monday, January 1st, 2024, at the age of 82.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her husband, Donald of 65 years; daughters, Donna Cluett (Les) of Frenchman’s Cove and Susan Dodge (Fred) of Garnish; grandchildren, Leslie Cluett (Tonia) of Frenchman’s Cove, Jeremy Cluett (Tara) of Ontario; and Heidi Dodge (Ian) of Torbay; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Ashlyn Cluett of Ontario; sister-in-law, Mae Myles of Grand Bank; plus a large circle of family & friends.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Ernest & Elsie Myles; brother, Leonard Myles; and parents-in-law, William & Maude Marsh.
Special thank you to the staff of the protective care unit at U.S. Memorial Health Centre for the exceptional care given to Marie during her stay and the compassion shown to the family in her final days will never be forgotten.
Marie was a kind, gentle lady, loved by all who met her. Generous to a fault, particularly with her time.
A selfless volunteer, she gave freely of herself to her community through various organizations such as the Garnish Library Board, ACW, Heritage Society, Bakeapple Festival, Burin Peninsula Health Care Auxiliary, Jamieson Academy Breakfast Program plus numerous other events….basically, if it need doing, Marie was there.
Family was everything to Marie; in fact her biggest and brightest smiles came from spending time with her Daughters, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Marie Loved the outdoors, whether it was a cup of tea by the side of a pond, helping Don cut a few sticks of birch or just a long walk in the fresh air. But berry picking is where she really shined. She could go for hours on end, returning home at or near dusk, laden down with whatever was in season…Don in the window just shaking his head.
Marie was also known to play the odd game of darts. Actually that’s a bit of an understatement…she LOVED her darts, particularly her Wednesday night Ladies League, but also competed in southern Division Top Ten.
Marie worked for The Hudson Bay Company until her retirement as Receiving Manager at Zellers.
