Also leaving to mourn are many nieces, nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents Frederick and Elizabeth Loder, her son Rene (1991), grandson Robbie (2004) and son-in-law Jody (2015). As well as her brothers; Chris, Richard, Gordon and Herbert. Her beloved sisters; Edith and Isabelle. She is also predeceased by her in-laws Alfred and Margaret Pollard, Dulcie (George), Annie (Harold), Maxwell (Edith), Ruby (George), Audrey (Ronald) and Hector (Doreen).
Shirley was a friend to everyone she met. She was born in Great Harbour Deep and lived there until she moved with her family to St. Anthony in 1979. There she worked in the local fish plant until the cod moratorium of 1992. She and Cecil relocated to Sop’s Arm, white Bay in 1995 and remained there until 2013, when the settled in Deer Lake. She loved her family and the dear friends she met in each of these communities, and she was an active member of the Anglican Church until her health no longer allowed. Shirley was very much a homebody, who loved to cook, clean, bake and loved her visits for tea and card games with the family and friends. She loved sharing cherished memories of her childhood and early adulthood spent in Great Harbour Deep, where she married and started her family. She was a loving and caring lady who embraced a simple, quiet and peaceful life. She endured much tragedy, Illness and pain and taught her family how to handle hardship and grief with the strength and dignity she truly was. She had a tremendous faith in the Lord and He remained her Savior until the end. The love she had for her family was exceptional. She worried incessantly and would do anything to protect her husband and children from harm. Her husband Cecil meant everything to her- she often shared that she could not have asked for a better partner, friend, caregiver and love. He was her arms and legs when she could no longer use her own. Together they made an unbreakable team who taught their children the true meaning of love. Shirley has been waiting 32 years to be united with her son Rene and we know he has been patiently waiting to be with her again. So, as much as her family here will miss her every day for the rest of our lives, it gives us peace to know she is being received into the arms of those she loved and missed for many years.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who cared for Shirley at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook. The staff at the Palliative Care Unit were exceptional and they sure earn their angel wings each and every day.
