Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved
wife, mother, and cherished family member Margaret Isabella Fudge (Marg),
at the age of 76, surrounded by her loving family. Her remarkable kindness,
inner strength, and unwavering love touched and enriched the lives of many.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Don Fudge, with whom she
shared 57 wonderful years; her daughters, Lori Pelchat (Paul) and Tracy
LeFrense (Blair); her grandchildren Spencer, Kaitlyn, and Maggie; step-
grandson Thomas (Rebecca) and step-great-grandson Theo; her sister,
Florence; her nieces and nephews; and her grand fur babies, Brody, Jack, Julie
and Bear. Along with a wide circle of extended family and friends who will
cherish her memory.
She was predeceased by her parents Stephen and Rita Smith of Norris Point,
her sister Frances (Ross), her brothers, Reuben (Evelyn), Warren (Beatrice),
Harold, and her beloved dog and faithful companion, Heidi.
Marg had a strong faith and grew up in the church. She served as a Sunday
school teacher and spent 30 years as a lay reader and choir member at St.
Matthews Church in Rocky Harbour. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life.
Marg embraced nature wholeheartedly, finding joy in life’s simple wonders.
She cherished the beauty of sunsets, as well as the freshness of a bouquet of
flowers or newly harvested vegetables from her garden, always bringing a
smile to her face. Her daily walks and moments of reflection while sitting in
the red chairs at Vessels Brook were sources of peace and tranquility. She
was an avid cross country skier and enjoyed hiking the trails around Gros
Morne National Park. Her love for nature extended to her 23 years of
dedicated service with Parks Canada.
Margaret believed that her most significant and treasured role was that of a
mother. Family was at the heart of her life. Marg took immense pride in her
children and grandchildren, always finding ways to make their lives brighter
and more meaningful. Her home was a gathering place filled with love,
laughter and the aroma of her delicious home cooked meals. She created
countless fun-loving memories with each of them. She enjoyed baking
gingerbread cookies with her grandkids, tobogganing, and breaking out in
song and dance, including her memorable rendition of ‘Oh Canada’ in New
York’s Grand Central Station among many other joyful moments. Her wisdom,
guidance, and warm embraces will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Her love for travel enriched her life, filling it with adventures and meaningful
experiences. She found great happiness in the company of her husband and
many close friends, sharing laughter and stories over a glass of wine, creating
fond moments that will be forever treasured.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jim Bowen for his
years of dedicated care, the nurses at the Bonne Bay Cottage hospital, and
Sueann Collett, whose extraordinary compassion and commitment brought
comfort and peace to our loved one during her final days. We also want to thank
the community for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time; it
has been a true blessing to our family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to St.
Matthew Church, Church of the Good Sheppard or the Gros Morne Community
Church.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21 st , at the St. Matthew’s Church in
Rocky Harbour from 7 – 9pm and a Celebration of Margaret’s life, officiated by
