Robert George Bowers
January 30, 1955 – February 1, 2024
Robert (Bob) George Bowers, 69, of Hampden, Newfoundland, after a sudden medical incident, passed away peacefully on February 1st, 2024, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Western Long Term Care Home in Corner Brook with his loving family by his side.
Born in Corner Brook on January 30th, 1955 to Higgins Ronald Bowers and Teresa Mary Bowers (Noftall), Bob grew up in Baie Verte where he made many special lifelong friends.
On April 19th, 1975 Bob married the love of his life, Glynis Joan Snow, and they went on to have three children, Steve, Jeff and Sue-Anne. Bob started his career in Baie Verte, before moving on to work in Wabush, Hampden, Churchill Falls, Nova Scotia and Alberta, and finally retiring back home to Newfoundland in 2019. After retirement Bob spent his final years doing what he loved most – playing music, camping, fishing and giving back to the town of Hampden.
Bob valued family and community above all else and was passionate about establishing a sense of connection with his fellow residents. He was especially committed to the Prime Timers 50 + Club and his music group – the Jig Jammers. Through this he fostered many special friendships and was deeply loved and respected by those who knew him.
Bob was a man of music, having been the drummer for the band “A Little Something” in his younger days. He went on to create Golden Day Music during his time in Nova Scotia and worked as a member of the executive committee for the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee. In recent years Bob could be found touring around with Gary Gale, playing songs and supporting young musicians on the local scene.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Glynis Bowers (Snow) and his three children Steve Bowers and wife (Kristan), Jeff Bowers and wife (Yeunsuk), Sue-Anne Marchand and husband (Stuart) and his five beautiful grandchildren Layla, Ben, Jessie, Annie Rose and Sparrow. He is also survived by his siblings Joanne Gale and husband (Ivan), Ron Bowers and wife (Elizabeth), Jim Bowers and wife (Katie), Teresa MacKinnon and husband (Phillip) as well as many nieces and nephews who won’t soon forget their “Greatest Uncle Bob”.
A celebration of life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Prime Timers 50+ Club of Hampden, Newfoundland. In earlier years, Bob coached basketball at Hampden Academy. Funds raised will be used to create a scholarship fund for intramural sports at Hampden Academy.
